Glossary of Cables, Cords, and Wires
These are in every room in the building. Know them, and you’ll be able to explain and understand a lot
|VGA – A type of video cable, usually blue, used on our projectors and monitors and most computers.
||USB – An all-purpose cable for keyboards, mice, chargers, board, all sorts of things (except video)
||Ethernet – A cable used for our internet and desk phones, also used for extending usb on board, also called patch cable
||C13 Power – A black rubbery cable, very common, used for monitors, projectors, most computers
||C7 Power – thinner power cable, used for Promethean boards and some older projectors
These are less common but still good to know:
|DVI- video cable, usually white, similar to VGA but less common
||DisplayPort – quality video cable, used on Venue docks
||HDMI – quality video and audio in one, used on Venue docks and Miracasts, needs adapter for our projectors
|MicroUSB – small cable, used as charger for phones and Venues (careful: different voltages)
||USB A/B – one end is regular USB, the other is squarish, used mostly for printers
||Aux – used for audio, seen on external speakers, can be used with boards and projectors
||RCA – red yellow white, from old dvd players and video game consoles
